Cacti, Plants With Minimal Responsibility, Yes!
As I was going through a list of things that I needed to do today, in effort to be prepared to head back to the Carolinas on Sunday afternoon, a flash of inspiration hit me. I want a plant, but not just the average plant, something that sticks out and defines my personality. I want to take this plant to school with me and show it off in my dorm. A cactus! My thought process didn’t occur in that exact manner, but it did follow it somewhat. Regardless, I wanted a cactus, so I bought two!
Not only will I be bringing my revived and re’amped self to Rock Hill on Sunday, but with me will be my two cacti. Technically I have one cactus and one euphorbia, which is commonly confused as a cactus, but let’s not get too detailed here. I’ve done a pretty good amount of reading on cacti today and the coolest thing that I learned is that cacti usually thrive on neglect! This makes sense, being that their natural habitat is the desert. You could consider the desert as God’s place of neglect: lack of water, lack of nutrients, etc. Anyways, this fact is probably a good thing. If I forget to water the cacti for a couple of weeks at school, no big deal. Cacti are only supposed to be watered every two to three weeks, depending on the season. Over watering these desert plants can kill them. Great news for a super busy college student.
Tomorrow is my last day of winter break. I’m going to head out to Marietta with my Dad tomorrow afternoon to see my Papa Travis. I’m just going to relax at home for the remainder of the night. I’ll be taking in the feeling of no responsibility for one last night, it’s going to smell so sweet. Actually, I’m pretty excited for the upcoming semester and its responsibilities. I’m ready to take on all the challenges ahead of me. seventeen hours of classes, five days a week of soccer, and one more thing I might add to it all.
I spent the majority of this morning researching work study employment opportunities at Winthrop for the Spring semester. I’ve found some job openings and have decided to work on campus this semester. I could really use some extra money, so I’m pumped! However, the sacrifice for the money is a loaded schedule, every week: Classes during the morning and day, soccer in the evening, then work at night. We shall see how much I enjoy this. You have to start working sometime, right? I’m thinking so.
