I’M BACK, and Last Home Game

Well yesterday was  historic day for me and Winthrop soccer. I made my season practice “debut” as some of the guys called it. It was a great day. The practice before every game, we play this game “sloganned”— pregame. The team gets split into three teams picked by the coaches and two teams battle it out for 5 minutes, or the first one to score, on a mini-sized field. The winning team stays on the field, and the first team to get eight wins, wins the game. Anyways, this was the perfect day for me to come back with the team. All I got to do was play, no so called training, or fitness, I just got to play soccer. My team ended up winning our first seven games in a row.. meaning we had to play seven games in a row, one after another without any break. Not playing in three months definitely affected me.. but I think I handled it fine. My foot felt awesome for the first five games, but then something happened and it began to hurt pretty badly. I played through it— although I probably shouldn’t have done that— but I talked to my athletic trainer afterwards when I was in the cold whirlpool and he said I was hurting because my foot was just getting used to playing again, so no worries there. It is still very very sore today though, but that was expected.

Today is our last home game of the season. We host High Point at two this afternoon in a Big South Conference match. It’s going to be a nice day for some college soccer. It’s not cold, but not hot outside, with a little bit of wind in the mix. It’s also senior day, so I think we should have a good turn out fan-wise. No pressure today, as our result won’t affect anything in the standings. Here’s to a good game today in route to a good start to the real deal— the Big South tournament, starting next Thursday.
