Asheville

I had a pretty good weekend, nothing too exciting. Just finishing up some studying here at the throp. Things could have gone better yesterday though, as our seven game winning streak, and any chance of our regional or national ranking going up, was haulted. I’m not one to make excuses, what happened happened. But our 1-0 loss to UNC Asheville on Saturday was due to many things. Number one, we didn’t play very well at all. Number two, UNC Asheville has a poor excuse for a college soccer stadium. Number three, we were just unlucky. This loss doesn’t ruin our season or anything, it barely affects it at all. Actually, it is probably a good thing that we lose a conference match before going into the conference tournament- better now than in the conference tournament, where if you you lose, you’re out. Sure it would be nice to be 12-3 and 5-0 in the conference, but things happen. We’ll just have to come out strong on Thursday night in a home conference match against Gardner-Webb.

Other than the loss, everything else went very nicely over the weekend. I got my phone back, finally.. and UGA beat LSU. On Friday night, I watched Fox Soccer Channel’s college game of the week as Furman and College of Charleston battled it out. I got to watch two of my longtime Georgia ODP teammates, Alec and Warren, start and play for Furman. It was awesome watching two guys that I grew up with play in a big-time game. Furman lost to Charleston, which was pretty cool for us Winthrop guys, because we beat Charleston three days before. I’m learning that college soccer is pretty evenly matched, on any given day any team can beat another team. We’ll see in the spring when we have our annual Manchester Cup, hosting some of the best college teams in the southeast.. Furman, South Carolina, Clemson, Kentucky, etc. We have a game against Furman and a game against UNC Greensboro.. should be fun.
Anyways..

I’ve got a pretty tough week ahead of me.. a biology lab test on Tuesday and a biology lecture test on Thursday. Hopefully my three hours of studying at Starbucks earlier today led me in the right direction towards a pair of A’s.. we shall see.
