In the Clear

I had an appointment with Winthrop’s orthopedic surgeon today, the doctor who did my surgery. After looking at my foot, he told me that I was cleared to start running. This was good and bad news. Good in that I’m well on my way to being back in college-soccer form, but bad in that running means more work.

Today at practice my athletic trainer had me run a couple of laps, then some more laps, and then even more.. it wasn’t that bad though. For some reason, I don’t think I’ve gotten that out of shape.. the running was actually enjoyable. After stretching for a while I got to juggle the ball and do some passing drills and volley drills. It was so weird being back in action, I can’t wait for the coming weeks; I know I’m not supposed to rush my recovery, but a part of me just wants to do everything as hard and fast as I can.. probably not a good thing.

After working out with the team this morning, I decided to go to the West Athletic Center tonight and workout again. I’ve got the fever. Being back and able to do things normally has really motivated me to get better and stronger. Over the past two weeks, I’ve been working out twice a week in the mornings with the team, but also I’ve been adding two or three more lifting-sessions of my own throughout the nights and afternoons each week. It’s good to be semi-back.

Overall, I’d say that this week was very busy, but very good. I don’t have any complaints. I’m loving everything, even more now because I’m in the condition that I was supposed to be this entire semester, a physically active soccer player.

Making the week even better, my parents have decided to come up to Winthrop this weekend to watch us take on VMI (Virginia Military Institute) on Sunday afternoon. They’ll get here sometime Saturday afternoon, just in time to see UGA take on Tennessee. Sadly I’ll miss the kickoff with them, as I have practice from two-four on Saturday.
