Busy.Busy.

I have a lot of things going on right now, papers, projects, rehab, you name it. I guess I should start by announcing the status of my foot. It’s finally bootless. The x-rays on Wednesday showed that the bone is finally healed. There is no sign that I ever had a fracture. The only odd thing about my x-ray is the three inch titanium screw that’s sitting in my fifth metatarsal bone. I wish I could get a copy of my x-ray, I think it’s pretty sweet. It makes me want to go to medical school and become an orthopedic surgeon. Sure it sounds nice that they make $ 300,000 a year, but the life that they lived for eight years before that in medical school was full of hard work and sacrifices. Just a little something to think about. For now I’m sticking with the physical therapy track.. four years of undergrad followed by three to four years of graduate school, then bam, I’m a physical therapist making quite a pretty penny.

Speaking of school and my major.. biology is definitely kicking my butt right now. I think it’s the fact that I’m in honors biology, as opposed to the regular class. I got my exam back that I took on Tuesday.. wow. I’m not gonna share exactly what I made, I did pass, but I didn’t quite get the number that I was looking for. The test was twelve questions, all short answer/essays. If I was in the regular course, the test would probably consist of fifty multiple choice questions and maybe an essay at the end. The price I pay to try to get a diploma with honors next to my name. This class really calls for an in depth comprehension of the material. It’s definitely not high school anymore. I’m learning that I can’t just memorize facts, but rather, I have to understand and apply the material. All my other classes are going smoothly, except for graphic design. I think my art skills will come around though, it just takes a little practice and patience.

It has been raining pretty hard here today. Our conference opener against Liberty tonight has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 3:30 because of the forecast of a continuing downpour tonight. I wish we would just play tonight, I like having Saturday afternoons free for myself. I’m guessing that a lot of games tonight in the Carolinas will be rescheduled.

I’m progressing the physical therapy on my foot since I’ve been cleared to walk. Yesterday I had my first cardiovascular activity in six weeks. It proved how out of shape I’ve become since not being able to do anything. After my usual therapy routine, I was put on an elliptical for ten minutes, followed by a stationary bike for ten minutes. I worked up a pretty good sweat. The rest of my recovery goes as follows: getting comfortable with walking, learning to jog, learning to sprint, learning how to cut, then finally kicking. These steps are going to take about four to six weeks depending how my foot deals with the activity. The good thing though, is that I’m a redshirt, meaning there is no rush at all for me to get on the field. If I rush into things, there is a definite possibility that I can fracture my foot again. Although the bone is healed, it is still very weak. I learned this yesterday during practice when I kept telling my athletic trainer that I was fine to jog. That was a mistake, he definitely knows his stuff.

For the rest of the day I plan to work on my writing-101 paper, do some physical therapy, and just relax. Hopefully we don’t have practice. Actually, I might go work out, that sounds nice.
