Topped the Spartans
GREENSBORO, NC - I’m sitting here in my car in the parking lot next to the UNCG Soccer stadium watching all of my teammates get onto the team bus across the street. What a crazy night..
Since I’m a medical redshirt.. I’m not really suppossed to travel with the team on their away games. They were playing at UNCG tonight.. and I really, desperately wanted to see this game. Even though none of the other guys on the team that were back at campus didn’t want to go, I decided to take a personal road trip. I google-mapped uncg from winthrop and I was on my way. About 3/4 of the way there.. the directions on my computer stop making sense„ they were going to end 30 miles earlier than greensboro.. it turned out that google recognized some community college on “greensboro st” in lexington, nc when I typed in uncg.. so I was a little off course.. I left at five thirty.. and got to the stadium at 9.. wow. It should have only taken me 2 hours to get there. I pacnicked when I was lost in the middle-of-nowhere, NC.. I called Sheida in disparity hoping that she could help me out. She did more than that, staying on the phone with frustrated jacob for 50 minutes! I was so lucky to have her to call. She guided me towards the stadium.. apparently, some streets on google maps have changed names since it was last updated.. so that wsa difficult trying to work through, but we did it.
I got to the game with 28 minutes left.. the score was 2-1 winthrop.. I was relieved to see such time on the clock because I thought I was going to completely miss the game. UNCG was all over us though when I sat down.. we were a man down, someone had gotten a red card. At about the 15 minute mark, UNCG tied it up. But off the kick off, 13 seconds later, Revivo scored a great game winning goal. We held the spartans off for 15 more minutes and got the W. They had just beaten Duke 1-0 last week. What a great ending to the game.. I made it to the best part of the game, really, the other minutes didn’t matter, as long as I saw the winning goal.
It was a great win against a historically good UNCG. We play elon on sunday.. with a win over them, we would be the champions of the UNCG tournament.
