I had an x-ray taken of my foot today. Finally, more progression.. I’m allowed to walk! Only in my boot, but hey, walking is walking. Winthrop’s orthopedic surgeon decided to take my recovery more aggressively since there is a screw in my bone holding it together. I wasn’t supposed to be off crutches until another week. I’m so relieved now. I’m going to miss the constant tricep workout though.. actually I change my mind. It was great giving the crutches back to the athletic trainer today. I have sympathy for anyone who has to survive multiple weeks on crutches. But really, the last days on my crutches were my greatest. They felt like a part of me. Tonight I got up to go to the bathroom.. and hopped over to the corner of my dorm where my crutches usually are.. then I realized I could walk. I was getting pretty skilled on them though, I must say. I could kick-open doors, drive with my left foot, carry my drink in the dining hall. What a sight.
Three weeks walking in this boot, then I have another x-ray September 24th. If all goes as planned, I can put on a normal shoe in three weeks. I start physical therapy tomorrow with my athletic trainer. Everyday before practice.. it’s going to be a blast. I’m actually going to try to go swimming tomorrow morning. I need to start getting my cardio up to where it was before the break.. it’s going to take a while.
Winthrop freshman athletes have to go to study hall at the coliseum each week. Every team has specific number of hours the athlete has to get. Soccer is set at six hours. I have two hours for this week so far.. I really need to get in there. But the thing is, tomorrow I don’t have any time at all for study hall. I have class all morning and afternoon, then practice, then my design class from 6:30-9:15 at night.. and study hall closes at 9. Maybe I can go during class? It’s not like I actually practice or anything.. I’ll work it out. We’ve got two big games this weekend against the mid-major powerhouse UNCG and Elon.. at the UNCG tournament.
Finished my second graphic design project today in my dorm.. I’m sure I’ll get assigned another one tomorrow in class.
