Writing 101
Japanese architecture. I’ve been reading an essay (more like a novel) by Junichiro Tanizaki for the past 2 hours. I’ve got to say, it wasn’t that bad. Although the essay was published sometime in the early 1900’s, I could still relate. He discussed every aspect of Japanese architecture, from the roofs, to the bathrooms, to the shadows..toilets..heat..lacquerware..to the influence of western culture on Japanese society. Why am I telling you this? I don’t know. I was dreading reading it, but found that it was really interesting. Random fact: The (traditional) Japanese like adding space to a wall as decor as western society likes adding huge paintings or wallpaper as decor. The contrast of different shadows on a wall is seen as depth and beauty. Weird.
