MARCH MADNESS
I usually title my blog post after I’ve written it, in order to name it appropriately. This time though, I immediately named the post MARCH MADNESS (yes in all caps) because I knew that it was the only title fit enough for this post.
So yes people, it’s that wonderful time of year, in March, where the weather is warming up (if you’re in the south) and college basketball is at its best. Playing at Winthrop made me really value the cinderella story of an underdog, higher-seeded team advancing in the tournament. Although both the seasons that I was a part of at Winthrop saw us losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament (to William and Mary in 08 and Duke in 09), I learned that just because a team is from a big name school doesn’t mean that they are going just trump over a smaller, mid-major school. Mid-majors can have just as much, or even more talent than the BIG schools. Mid-majors have an advantage though, they have nothing to lose! The lower seed is expected to win, although when a mid-major does indeed lose, it feels like they had everything to lose. Losing is never enjoyable, period.
So here’s to all of the 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 seeds in the first rounds. Let’s see some serious talent and upsets! I won’t tell you the upsets picked in my bracket until the games are over today, but hopefully I’ll be able to brag about my bracket’s picks in the coming days!
Last November I wrote a post, November Madness, talking about the NCAA soccer tournament and how not only was it November-madness on the soccer field, but also in the classroom. Classes were hectic! Luckily I can say that the classroom isn’t hectic for me right now and I’ll get to enjoy the opening round of the NCAAs and enjoy a nice weekend. This isn’t going to last for long but I’ll enjoy it as long as it lasts! (The next couple of days..)
I hope everyone is having a nice end of their week and can catch some basketball on TV or online tonight or tomorrow. UGA is shaping up really nicely for me. Classes are great. Life is great. And PS, I’m now an Economics major along with my pre-med emphasis.
MARCH MADNESS, GET PUMPED! Kyle Singler sure will be.
