Finding My Groove

Well it’s the eve of the last day of captains camp here at Winthrop. We wrap up captains week tomorrow, (we have a day off on Friday) as the official start of the NCAA season starts on Saturday.

It has been a good week on the field. I’ve had my ups and downs on the pitch, but feel like I’m finding my groove for this year already. Of course, the intensity is going to sky rocket come Saturday when the coaches are finally out on the field, as everyone is going to compete for their spots on the field, but I feel like this week has prepared me for my own battle for a spot on the so-called “traveling” roster (with 25 guys on the team, NCAA rules state that only 18 guys are allowed on the roster per game, it’s up to the coaches who’s on each game roster).

We’ve been doing fitness in the morning, around 8:30, followed by some technical training and then playing 7v7 games for about two hours in the evenings starting around 6:30. It’s been a week of soreness, that’s for sure. I’m ready to get in a game though, for real. August 20th!
